The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) has announced the winners of the 2021 Leslie Award, which recognizes high-performing grantees who have demonstrated the values of leadership, excellence, service, learning, innovation, and execution. The awardees were chosen from a pool of 400 active grantees through a quantitative and qualitative selection process, and are as follows:
- Cooperative Category: Naremiet Beach Management Unit (Kenya)
- Small- and Medium-size Enterprises (SME) Category: Selma Agriculture Development Corporation (Liberia)
- Early-stage Entrepreneurship Category: Omia Agribusiness Development Group Ltd (Uganda)
The winners will each receive up to $20,000 in recognition of their achievements. The Leslie Award is named in honor of Jack Leslie, who has served as Chairman of the USADF Board of Directors for over 20 years. USADF is an independent U.S. government agency that supports grassroots enterprises and social entrepreneurs in Africa, with the goal of increasing incomes, revenues, and jobs through self-reliance and market-based solutions to poverty.
