FARMERS FEATURE

This month, Omia Agribusiness was honored to host the World Food Programme Country Director. Read on for the full details.
Through farming, Women are changing their lives and impacting society. We detail the story of Joy Monday, one of such women.
Work stations and all other spaces are supposed to be safe and inclusive for all. What does NUDIPU actually mean by this?
WORD FROM OMIA CEO
IGANACHI RAZAK OMIA

“Hi Friend,
Thanks for stopping by! October was a special month for us, as Uganda celebrated her Independence, the Omia Agribusiness team celebrated in the best way we know how: by serving farmers.
Across communities, our field champions worked tirelessly to provide access to vital agricultural inputs, extension services, and market linkages. Their dedication continues to bring the good news of climate-smart agriculture to every farmer.
We were also deeply honored to host our reliable partners from the
World Food Programme (WFP), led by the Country Director. In addition, the NUDIPU team joined us for a capacity-building visit, guiding us on how to build a truly inclusive #FarmersFirst family.
There’s a lot more to share inside, please delve in!”
Warm regards.
On the 21st of October, 2025, Omia Agribusiness hosted the incredible Lauren Landis, Country Director of World Food Programme Uganda, her team from the National and area office, and World Vision Uganda teams. Lauren, just like our hashtag#farmersfirst, our team values
partnerships and the power of creating impact together, and we spent time reflecting on how the private sector can make a meaningful contribution to humanitarian work.
Our partnership with WFP alone has impacted over 22,000 lives since 2022 in West Nile, Acholi, and Bunyoro sub-regions in Uganda. The refugee and Ugandan farmers we are working with are on the right track to producing more food for themselves, their communities and earning more money through climate-smart agricultural practices.
Next is to scale farmer support and access to critical inputs and markets to even more farmers in the Country. We are happy to partner with development organizations to cause impact. Please reach out so that we can
explore partnership opportunities and collectively improve the livelihood of the people in our communities, Uganda, and the entire world at large.
Ms. Lenia Latifah Judith (in green t-shirt), Omia Agribusiness’s Chief People and Culture Officer, engages with the NUDIPU team during the interactions on inclusion.
Is it really a necessity to have inclusive spaces in Agribusiness? At first, it sounded complex, talking about inclusion and accessibility in agriculture.
However, on the 14th of October, 2025, Omia Agribusiness was privileged to participate in an
accessibility assessment with support from our partners at the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda – NUDIPU, both theoretically and practically, denoted why inclusion matters in
Agribusiness as well.
We spent a better part of the day conducting an accessibility assessment with support from our
partners at the National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda – NUDIPU. This is part of Omia Agribusiness Development Group Limited’s ongoing efforts to build a more inclusive business environment for the farmers we serve, the staff we employ, and the customers
who buy our farmers’ produce.
One thing is for sure is it was more than just an assessment. It turned into a powerful learning experience, helping us see, feel, and understand what accessibility truly means in practice.
Inclusion goes beyond policy; it’s about awareness, empathy, and deliberate action to ensure everyone, regardless of ability, can participate fully in the agribusiness value chain.
We are grateful to the NUDIPU UGANDA team for walking this journey with us and helping us see the small yet impactful steps we can take to make a difference.
Omia Agribusiness was ably represented by Lenia Latifah Judith, the Chief People and Culture Officer, and Jackson Abiriga, the Gender, Safety, and Inclusion Officer.
JOY: MAKING A DIFFERENCE THROUGH POULTRY FARMING
Joy Monday paid a harmless visit to a friend of hers in 2023.
Little did she know that it , would become a journey of revelation that would introduce her to poultry farming.
Inspired by the kind of work that her friend was doing, Joy
used Shillings 700,000, which were her savings, to open Joy Poultry Farm in Kichwabugingo Center, Kiryandongo District.
Two years down the road, Joy’s farm has exponentially grown, but she has grown even more as an individual. From the proceeds of her farm, Joy is financially independent, but also supports her partner in paying school fees for their children. However, not everything has been a bed of roses for Joy.
Some of these challenges have been addressed by the Omia Agribusiness Extension Officers who normally visit her farm to provide free technical advice and also deliver affordable yet quality animal inputs like drugs and feeds.
With this support system, Joy has set her sights on expanding the farm to have 1,000 birds and also building a wall as part of the expansion efforts.
WATER MELONS RAINING MONEY ON AMANIYO FARMERS GROUP
Amaniyo farmers group in Ludara Sub County, Koboko District, started harvesting their watermelons on the 26th of October, 2025, and we were right there to buy from them! 200
fruits from the first harvest, earning UGX 1,900,000 (USD 546).
From the best quality seeds to the ready market! We convert the effort of our farmers into
money!
Working every day to make this a reality for every African farmer. It is such stories that motivate us to keep doing what we do. It is possible to have an Africa that is free from poverty and food insecurity. Omia Agribusiness is focused on being one of those Companies pioneering an agricultural model that improves the livelihood of the farmers.
MTN UGANDA RECOGNIZES OMIA AGRIBUSINESS FOR CONSISTENT USE OF MOMO
Mobile Telephone Network (MTN) Uganda paid a courtesy visit to Omia Agribusiness on the 25th of October, 2025.
During this visit, MTN appreciated Omia Agribusiness for its consistent use of the MOMO
(Mobile Money) service where customers can make payments online without requiring hard
cash. This system was adopted by Omia Agribusiness at all its outlets to allow farmers and other stakeholders to make purchases of various items conveniently, even when they do not have hard cash, as carrying it has many inconveniences.

FARMER TRAININGS
During the last week of October 2025, Omia Agribusiness’s Extension Officers facilitated enterprise-specific farmer trainings at Sub sub-county level in West Nile and Acholi sub-regions. Some of the topics that they covered were: variety/enterprise selections, cost benefit analysis, nursery bed establishment and management, planting, soil and plant nutrition, pest and
disease management, harvest and post-harvest handling, as well as marketing.
These interactions with our precious stakeholders, the farmers, are pivotal because they enable us to hear directly from our farmers, our teams share practical knowledge, the sessions encourage peer-to-peer learning, there are opportunities to refine our offerings, and it is a chance for us to deliver top-quality products to the farmers.
